Innovation in Action: Tackling Coastal Erosion with Used Tire Waste in Collaboration with Planet Ban and Carbonethic

Coastal erosion is a serious issue threatening the sustainability of coastal environments and the surrounding human activities. However, amid this challenge, an extraordinary innovation has emerged from the collaborative efforts between Planet Ban and Carbonethics, offering an impressive solution by utilizing used tire waste.

In Tanjung Pakis, Karawang, this collaboration has resulted in a unique project involving the use of used tires as wave breakers to control coastal erosion. By employing 1,550 used tires, the project has successfully created a natural barrier that effectively dissipates wave energy and protects the coast from excessive erosion.

This process involves ongoing collaborative efforts between Planet Ban and Carbonethics, environmental organizations focused on sustainable solutions. Planet Ban supplies the unused tires, while Carbonethics coordinates the processing and installation of these tires at the appropriate locations.

In addition to providing a practical solution for coastal erosion, the project also has a positive impact on waste management. By recycling used tires that were previously considered waste, we not only reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills but also add value to this waste.
